BREAKING NEWS: Dragons Luke Westphal signs with Twins

Doncaster Dragons pitching ace Luke Westphal’s dominant Summer has resulted in him being signed to a professional contract by Minnesota Twins.

Westphal has seized on the opportunity to start every week - he has started 14 games with the Dragons this Summer - absolutely dominating opposing hitters - Westphal has struck out 136 hitters with an ERA of just 0.49.

Remarkably, Westphal is the third Doncaster Dragon in the Minnesota organisation as he joins fellow Dragons pitchers Lewis Thorpe and Matz Schutte in the Twins Minor League system.

Westphal played high school baseball in Clintonville Wisconsin, which is his home town and then went on to play college baseball for 4 years at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.  After college Luke signed with independent Frontier League club the Gateway Grizzlies in St. Louis Missouri, playing as a reliever with them for the past 2 years.  He was recently traded to the Chicago-based Joliet Slammers, also in the Frontier League, however Minnesota Twins yesterday purchased Westphal’s contract outright from the Slammers.

Westphal’s signing is again testament to the value of gaining exposure in our local competition and is a boost for Victorian and Australian baseball competitions.

Luke will be reporting to Twins Spring training next month, so make sure you get down to see this rare talent before he departs our shores.
